The only national service of its kind, the trade-in and recycle program gives people interested in upgrading their espresso machine or grinder an option other than to throw their old machines away completely intact. Additionally, by trading in their used machines, they can offset the cost of their purchase with a store credit toward a newer model.
In many cases, the traded in machine will be thoroughly refurbished and resold to someone else at a discounted cost, ultimately extending the life of the machine. Sometimes the cost to refurbish the machine will outweigh its resale value, so Seattle Coffee Gear will instead recommend that the machine be recycled. The recycle process involves breaking the machine down into component parts, determining which of them are reusable in other machines and then recycling those that are no longer functioning. The team at Seattle Coffee Gear is continuously researching ways to recycle as much of the machine as possible, in an effort to limit the final quantity of waste that ends up in the landfill.
"We were receiving tons of calls from customers about trade-ins and from folks who weren't sure if it was okay to simply throw their old machine away," explains
