SciQuest Takes Green Procurement on the Road in April

Posted on: Thursday, 2 April 2009, 10:19 CDT

Make Sustainability Your Mantra; Join SciQuest and Arizona State University at the NACUBO Smart & Sustainable Campuses Conference

CARY, N.C., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SciQuest, Inc., the global leader empowering enterprises to realize the potential of strategic procurement, will present the educational session, "Transforming Green Ideals into Real Fiscal Policies," next week with customer Arizona State University. The first in SciQuest's Green Procurement on the Road series, the presentation will be held April 6 during the Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference. Developed by the National Association for College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the conference is a comprehensive symposium on sustainability, including operational solutions, smart growth policies and strategies for achieving climate neutrality.

"ASU is proud to be recognized as one of the nation's 'greenest' universities, and the entire institution is committed to environmental stewardship that reduces the University's impact on the environment," said John Riley, C.P.M., executive director of purchasing and business services at Arizona State University. "We realized early on that the purchasing department was in a position to make huge strides in supporting the University's commitment to sustainability. We've had significant measurable results through our green purchasing polices and sustainable business practices. Procurement has the power to extend sustainability across the campus, and I look forward to sharing ASU's story to help other institutions turn their green ideals into successful realities."

During this session, Riley and Eric Zoetmulder, director of product marketing at SciQuest, will share how college and university procurement operations and eprocurement technologies can transform a green vision into tangible economic results. Riley and Zoetmulder will address the potential impact that procurement policies, processes and technologies can have on efforts to achieve campus sustainability, fulfill the obligations of the President's Climate Commitment, and encourage the growth and support of green industries and suppliers.

"More and more organizations are seeking ways to make their procurement processes environmentally responsible, but face daunting challenges such as where to start, how to promote green products and how to show results," stated Zoetmulder. "A unified green procurement strategy combining processes and technologies can serve as a valuable tool to implement, measure and communicate green procurement results. Procurement is uniquely positioned to provide green businesses with the support they need to extend sustainability's reach beyond the walls of higher education and into the larger business world. I look forward to not only showing the attendees how to make sustainability their mantra, but also how to make it a reality at their organization."
