Founder of Detroit Company to Receive National Honors in Nation’s Capital

U.S. Small Business Administration Award

DETROIT, April 3 /PRNewswire/ — Avinash Rachmale, CEO and President of Lakeshore Engineering Services, headquartered in Detroit’s New Center area, has been selected to receive the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 2009 National Entrepreneurial Success Award. The SBA noted Lakeshore’s innovative ideas and dedication to the community as playing a role in the nation’s economic recovery.

Rachmale founded Lakeshore in 1994. In 2005 he acquired the historic building at the corner of Woodward Avenue and East Grand Boulevard which serves as the company’s headquarters. Lakeshore offers a full range of environmental and general construction services to a variety of clients including the U.S. Government and several municipalities across the United States. It is a global firm with more than 100 employees in Detroit, and 200 more scattered around the country and in the Middle East.

Lakeshore is committed to providing employment opportunities as the company continues an upward growth spurt. Its presence has been credited with helping to bring new businesses into the area which is helping to create jobs in the private sector while eliminating much of the urban blight once associated with the area. Lakeshore also has a non-profit arm which provides numerous outreach services to low-income, underserved citizens in Detroit’s North End, Highland Park and Hamtramck.

Rachmale was also chosen for the same award for the Michigan Region. He will be honored in Lansing in April, and again in Washington, D.C. in May when President Obama issues a proclamation calling for the celebration of Small Business Week. He has previously received the U.S. SBA Small Business Person of the Year award among other honors including Wayne State University’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni Achievement Award. He is also a member of the prestigious Wayne State University Engineering School Hall of Fame. Known for his quiet, yet firm approach to running his business, Rachmale credits his business partners and dedicated employees with helping Lakeshore achieve astounding success during this decade’s unprecedented economic downturn.
