Company Introduces Energy Efficient Products, Packaging Improvements for 2009 Spring Cordless Phone Line-Up

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading cordless phone manufacturer VTech(R) Communications, Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of VTech Holdings Ltd., HKSE: 303; ADR: VTKHY, and the largest U.S. cordless phone manufacturer), today announced that its new spring cordless phone lineup will continue to support environmentally friendly practices by maintaining Energy Star(R) and RoHS certifications and packaging improvements designed to reduce environmental impact.

This year the company's entire cordless phone product line has been developed with those ratings in mind, which will deliver the same or better performance as comparable models while using less energy. In addition, the company has introduced new club store packaging that is 100-percent recyclable and has reduced its gift box size by 41 percent. The smaller-sized packaging uses 99-percent less plastic, with a total of 14 ounces of PET plastic reduced from each box.

Other new club store packaging practices include adding a more environmentally friendly, water-based coating to replace UV coating on all gift boxes, which reduces the amount of chemicals used in production and recycling, as well as streamlines processing steps thereby reducing environmental impact. These process improvements include eliminating third-party packaging support, temporary packaging and duplicate processes to pack/unpack/repack. Overall, these practices result in decreased emissions and promote a more environmentally sound business.

The company's continued quest for improving the vitality of our planet is demonstrated through the proactive approach it has been taking over the past several years in maintaining environmentally friendly products and packaging. Since 2007, VTech has been committed to making a difference in improving the sustainability of our planet by using renewable energy in its goal to produce zero waste. All new VTech cordless phones are Energy Star(R)-certified, and offer RoHS compliance with reduced hazardous substances. Additionally, the company's catalogs are now printed using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper stock with a soy ink process.

"VTech is committed to making a difference in promoting the sustainability of our planet," said Matt Ramage, senior vice president of product management, VTech Communications, Inc. "Our products are designed with reduced environmental impact and energy efficiency in mind, and we will continue to focus on improving our environmental practices around packaging and processes to make a difference in the future. These steps are part of our ongoing commitment to contributing to a greener and cleaner world."

VTech's 2009 cordless phones will be available through retailers and club stores beginning in April 2009. Please visit www.vtechphones.com for current product information.
