What Do You Get With 30 Straws, 20 Paper Clips, 8 Push Pins, a Plastic Drinking Cup and Four Engineers with Some Chewing Gum and 30 Minutes on Their Hands?

CHERRY HILL, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey American Water's "It's a Tankless Job" team built a 33-inch model water tank that held eight ounces of water for 30 seconds to win the model building competition at the American Water Works Association's New Jersey Section annual conference in Atlantic City.

According to team leader and Senor Engineering Project Manager Jim Scott, PE, the Tankless Job team, which includes Senior Engineering Project Manager Andrew Larkin, PE, Engineering Project Manager James Schaller and Engineering Project Manager Eric Hahn, PE, had been preparing for the competition for a couple of weeks, perfecting their design, and assigning each member specific construction duties in order to get everything done in the allotted half-hour time limit. The final model included a New Jersey American Water logo stickered onto the "tank", and miniature "Danger, Construction" signs around its base.

With the New Jersey American Water tower completed, and other competitors failing to meet the standards, the exhibit hall's collective breath was held as Scott filled the tank with water, and then further as the seconds ticked by for required time limit. Declared the winners, the Tankless Job team donated their $100 prize to Water for People, an organization that helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs.

New Jersey American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 2.5 million people.
