Grains mixed Monday

April 13, 2009

Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday with the dollar falling against the euro and gaining against the yen.

Corn was off 2 1/2 to up 2 3/4, soybeans were up 10 to up 14 1/2, wheat was up 3/4 to up 1 1/4 and oats were off 3.

Corn closed lower with wet weather delaying field work as planting gets under way in the United States. Wheat prices gained slightly with coolness, rather than wetness, delaying U.S. crop progress. Soybeans rose sharply with South Korea in the market for 100,000 metric tons of non-genetically modified soybeans.

The prices:

Corn: May 3.87 1/2, off 2 3/4; Jul 3.97 1/4, off 2 1/2; Sep 4.07, off 2 1/2; Dec 4.19 1/4, off 2 1/2.
