Local Utility Recognized by AGA As One of the Safest In U.S.

PITTSBURGH, April 14 /PRNewswire/ — The American Gas Association has recognized Equitable Gas Company for achieving best in class performance in employee safety among natural gas distribution utilities in the United States.

Equitable Gas will receive AGA’s prestigious 2008 Safety Achievement Award as an industry leader in the medium-large sized distribution category for 2008. In the yearly competition, more than 100 AGA companies submit an extensive set of documented safety data, which is analyzed and ranked by company size.

In addition to its achievement in employee safety, Equitable Gas Company has demonstrated significant improvement in several areas of customer service, as reported by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. During the past several years, these improvements have helped Equitable Gas evolve into one of the top natural gas utilities in the Commonwealth.

“We are particularly proud of this award because our employees are working hard to achieve a world-class safety environment in everything they do,” said Elise Hyland, Equitable Gas Company president. “Whether it’s employee safety or overall customer satisfaction, we challenge our people to focus on improvement everyday — and it’s obviously working!”

AGA’s Safety Achievement Award is given to the company with the lowest DART (Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred) incident rate among similarly sized distribution companies. No member company that experiences a fatality is eligible to compete for the award in the same year.

Equitable Gas Company will receive the award at the annual American Gas Association Conference next month.

Based in Pittsburgh, Equitable Gas is a provider of safe and dependable natural gas to more than 275,000 families in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky.
