LONDON, April 20 /PRNewswire/ — As part of his ongoing support of Virgin
Unite, the not for profit foundation of the Virgin Group, actor Christian
Slater
returned to Ulusaba, Sir Richard Branson’s private game reserve in
South Africa, this week to visit a new classroom built at the Jeremiah
Creche, which he, Branson and guests of Ulusaba and Leopard Hill’s Lodge
jointly funded. The creche is supported by Pride ‘n Purpose, the charity arm
of Ulusaba, and will benefit over 60 disadvantaged children living in the
communities adjacent to the reserve.

In 2007 Christian and his son travelled to Ulusaba where they tracked the
‘Big Five’, relaxed in the peaceful surroundings and set out to learn more
about the nearby communities. He was deeply moved and touched by Pride ‘n
Purpose and their commitment to the local community after encountering the
daily lives of the Shangaan people firsthand. Subsequently, Christian donated
his home video of their safari experience, enabling Ulusaba to produce a
charity DVD “Our Safari Diary” to raise money for Pride n’ Purpose.

“Watching this classroom come to life after years of planning is truly
gratifying,” said Slater. “Access to education is essential to improving the
lives of disadvantaged children and I am thrilled to see what has been
achieved in the community in just the past two years. This speaks volumes
about the dedication and the heart of Ulusaba’s staff and Virgin Unite.”

Ulusaba can organise two types of Community Tours for their guests. A
tour of the Justicia Village which focuses on the rich culture of South
Africa
and the second is a ‘Day in the Life’ village tour, which looks into
some of the charitable projects and schemes Ulusaba actively promotes. These
can be tailored according to the guest’s interests.

No stranger to worldwide acclaim, Ulusaba was awarded the prestigious
Best of the Best Award in the category of Most Socially Responsible (hotel)
by Leading luxury travel network Virtuoso. The Hotel Award recognises a hotel
dedicated to making a difference through innovative local or global programs
that make the world a better place to live. Ulusaba was awarded this accolade
in recognition of the work undertaken by its charitable arm, Pride ‘n Purpose
and the innovative way in which Ulusaba guests can get involved with the
local community and make a difference.

Pride ‘n Purpose is committed to helping disadvantaged communities living
adjacent to the reserve. The work is achieved both through the provision of
basic needs, such as access to food, water and health services, and by
empowering communities through sustainable development initiatives.
