MINNEAPOLIS, April 21 /PRNewswire/ — Carlson Hotels Worldwide is recognizing Earth Day (April 22), the one-day, global celebration designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment, with a variety of programs and initiatives at its Radisson(R) Hotels & Resorts and Country Inns & Suites By Carlson(SM) properties around the country. From local activities to company-wide initiatives, Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Country Inns & Suites support Carlson Hotels’ commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business.

The Earth Day celebration kicks off an ongoing, nationwide environmental sustainability initiative featuring several elements designed to help create a greener planet. These include:

• Designated, year-round parking spaces for energy-efficient hybrid vehicles at select Country Inns & Suites locations.
• Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Country Inns & Suites locations will provide all Earth Day guests with Environmental Protection Agency brochures (www.epa.gov) outlining important environmental issues and practical solutions that consumers can undertake every day. Locations will also provide guests with links to other sources of information on environmental sustainability.
• Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Country Inns & Suites employees will wear special lapel pins in honor of the Earth Day celebration.
• Country Inns & Suites recently completed brand-wide evaluations of owned and managed locations under an Energy Star program. The rating will provide each location with an energy use measurement, allowing the property to take appropriate steps to improve its performance.
• Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Country Inns & Suites continue to support an initiative by parent company, Carlson Hotels Worldwide, to plant 1,000 trees worldwide in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign (billiontreecampaign.com).
