Emmy Award-Winning News Anchor Forrest Sawyer to Moderate Town Hall Meeting at Santa Barbara Summit on Energy Efficiency

May 21 Event Explores Energy Efficiency Policy and Technologies with Kleiner Perkins, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and United Technologies

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Institute for Energy Efficiency today announced the lineup for its town hall meeting program feature, "Policy and Technology: Conflict or Synergy?" at its inaugural Santa Barbara Summit on Energy Efficiency, May 20-21, 2009. Forrest Sawyer, Emmy Award-winning former ABC, NBC and MSNBC news anchor, will moderate a 75-minute interactive panel discussion probing the relationship between the development of new energy efficiency technologies and governmental policies that inhibit or accelerate their adoption.

Panelists confirmed to participate in the town hall event are:

• Randy Komisar, partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers;
• Arun Majumdar, Director of the Environmental Energy Technologies Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and
• J. Michael McQuade, Senior Vice President for Science and Technology, United Technologies.

"This discussion will allow attendees to explore in depth the core issues of energy efficiency policy and technology," said Dr. Daniel T. Colbert, Executive Director of the Institute. "Panelists for the town hall meeting were chosen for their sector expertise and breadth across the energy efficiency landscape, representing investment, government-sponsored research, and commercial stakeholders in energy efficiency. Engaging the audience through the town hall format promises to open up a more robust dialogue and shape the debate with further insight and varying audience points of view. In addition, Forrest Sawyer's experience in guiding similar discussions will help make this a session not to miss."

The Summit agenda also features panelists, keynotes and other speakers, including executives from Intel, Google, Cisco Systems, Microsoft Research, McKinsey & Co., California Public Utilities Commission, U.S. Department of the Interior and U.S. Department of Energy. On May 20, there will be a special evening lecture open to all Summit attendees by William McDonough, a winner of Time magazine's "Heroes of the Planet" award.

The town hall meeting is open to all summit registrants and to registered media, but not to the general public.
