Grains mixed Wednesday

April 22, 2009

Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Wednesday, mirroring a volatile day on Wall Street that ended with a late retreat.

Corn was off 1/4 to off 1/2, soybeans were off 3 1/2 to up 8, wheat was up 7 1/4 to up 7 3/4 and oats were off 2.

South Korea bought 55,000 metric tons of U.S. corn Wednesday. Wheat prices rose as planting progress for spring wheat was reportedly slower than its historic average. Soybeans closed lower, although drought conditions in China indicate exports will rise.
