Police Officers to Hit the Roofs Again for 2nd Annual Dunkin' Donuts Rooftop Stakeout Benefiting Special Olympics Indiana, May 1

Posted on: Thursday, 23 April 2009, 10:00 CDT

INDIANAPOLIS, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, Indiana police officers will stake out Dunkin' Donuts rooftops to benefit Special Olympics Indiana.

On Friday, May 1, beginning at 6 a.m., police officers will serve time on the roofs of 18 Dunkin' Donuts to heighten awareness and donations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Indiana, an intrastate relay fundraiser conducted by officers from all branches of law enforcement.

In return for the police officers doing time at their stores, Dunkin' Donuts will donate $5,000 to the Torch Run program's efforts. In addition, everyone who stops by a "Cop on a Rooftop" store that day and makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a coupon for a free donut, and for donations of $10 or more, coupons for free medium coffee will be distributed.

Last year, police officers raised more than $10,600 with four Dunkin' Donuts participating. Lieutenant Mike Beck of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and chair of the Indiana Law Enforcement Torch Run program hopes to raise at least $25,000 this year with many more police officers participating at 18 Dunkin' Donuts.

"We're very pleased to have the opportunity to partner with Dunkin' Donuts for Cop on a Rooftop again," said Beck. "People have always been very supportive of what we do to help Special Olympics athletes and their programs, and with so many police officers donating their time this year, we're looking forward to a very successful event, rain or shine!"

Police officers will stake out Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the following towns: Avon, Brownsburg, Indianapolis, Greenfield, Greenwood, Fort Wayne, Bloomington, Carmel, Anderson and Kokomo. Please visit www.soindiana.org for more information.

In Indiana, the Law Enforcement Torch Run was organized in 1987. Since then, the Indiana Law Enforcement Torch Run program has continued to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Indiana through its sponsorship of various special events and activities.
