Catapult Technology Earns CMMI(R) Level 3 Appraisal on Software Engineering Practice

April 23, 2009

Industry Designation Confirms Adherence to Industry Best Practices

BETHESDA, Md., April 23 /PRNewswire/ — Catapult Technology, Ltd., a leading Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) Information Technology (IT) contractor to the Federal government, announced that the company has been reappraised at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI(R)) Level 3, an important industry designation that confirms Catapult’s adherence to software engineering best practices and effective processes.

At Maturity Level 3, an organization shows that it has established a process infrastructure that enables routine use of streamlined, standard solutions for common tasks across projects and within the organization; application of work measures and lessons learned; and continuous process improvement.

Catapult’s Software Engineering practice was the focus of the assessment. Two specific software engineering projects were the subject of the appraisal:

  • Federal Aviation Administration, Comprehensive Management Resource Information System (FAA, CMRIS). Catapult developed the CMRIS system for planning and tracking the certifications process required to operate and maintain specific air traffic control equipment.
  • U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, Public and Indian Housing-Real Estate Assessment Center (HUD PIH-REAC). Catapult developed the Inventory Management System (IMS) to enable Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) to electronically submit physical and financial condition, resident satisfaction, management operations, quality assurance, and other information.

CMMI(R) appraisal “expires” after three years, so Catapult was reappraised to maintain Level 3 designation.

“Quality is important to the company, and therefore the goals for the CMMI assessment were to ensure that the software engineering services delivered to our customers exceed expectations,” said Randy Slager, CEO, Chairman, and Founder of Catapult Technology. “Catapult makes it part of our standard operating procedures to follow best practices and the tenets of quality service.”

The appraisal followed the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Standard CMMI(R) Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) v1.2 method and is based on CMMI-DEV v1.2 for Maturity Level 3. Annapolis, MD-based Process Transition International (PTI) performed the appraisal. Preparation for the appraisal began in September 2007, with milestones met throughout the process leading to the on-site appraisal in March 2009.

CMMI is designated by Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center. Catapult is also ISO 9000:2000 certified and is pursuing its 9000:20000 certification. The company also holds Lean Six Sigma and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL(R)) certifications. Catapult’s Project Managers are all required to be PMP certified as designated by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
