WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lt. Gen. Jack C. Stultz, chief, Army Reserve, reenlisted 60 Soldiers and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) at the Capitol building this morning to mark the 101st birthday of the Army Reserve.

Soldiers from every state and U.S. territory were hand-selected for their accomplishments and overwhelming dedication to the Army Reserve. Included were Bronze Star recipients and veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Army Reserve Soldiers - full-time patriots who serve part-time - are one of the best returns American taxpayers get for their money," said Lt. Gen. Stultz. "There are thousands of other Soldiers just like them serving at the tip of the spear, looking our enemies in the eye, showing the rest of the world what freedom is about. They truly are this nation's next Greatest Generation."

The National Capitol Reenlistment Ceremony affords the Army Reserve a unique opportunity to honor Soldiers who have chosen to continue service.

Army Secretary Pete Geren attended the event and personally acknowledged each Soldier. Geren has designated 2009 as the Year of the NCO to highlight the contributions of this invaluable "backbone of the Army." With more than 200 years of service, the NCO Corps has distinguished itself in military events ranging from Valley Forge to Gettysburg, to charges on Omaha Beach and battles along the Ho Chi Minh Trail, to current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Approximately 40 of the Soldiers are NCOs.
