Bayer CropScience Welcomes New Emergency Services Leader to the Institute Site

INSTITUTE, W.Va., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer CropScience is pleased to welcome Doug Jones to the Kanawha Valley as the Emergency Services Leader for the Institute site. In this role, Jones will lead the emergency response efforts at the Institute site and will be the primary liaison with neighboring and county emergency response organizations.

"The safety of our employees, neighbors and the community is our highest priority," said Nick Crosby, site manager for the Institute site. "We look for the new role of Emergency Services Leader to significantly enhance our coordination and emergency communications with Metro 911 and the community's emergency responders."

As a part of his new role, Jones already has been meeting with community fire departments and emergency response officials to familiarize himself with the people and procedures that are involved in emergency response.

"Doug brings 22 years of solid industrial safety and emergency response experience with him as he takes on his emergency services leadership role here at our Institute site," said Crosby.

Jones comes to Institute from the Bayer site in New Martinsville, W. Va., where he was the Senior Emergency Services Coordinator. Prior to that position he was at Bayer's Baytown, Texas, site, where he held positions in safety, environmental management and emergency response. As a member of Bayer's Emergency Response Team there he has served as Incident Commander, Operations Chief, Emergency Communications Officer, Hazmat Specialist/Corporate Hazmat Team Leader, Environmental Specialist, and Facility Security Officer.

A former paramedic and volunteer firefighter, Jones has served as a member of multiple mutual aid organizations. He currently is a guest instructor at Texas A&M's well-known Fire & Hazmat schools.

The Bayer CropScience Institute site is a manufacturing industrial park located near Charleston, W. Va. Among the companies with operating facilities at the site are Bayer CropScience, The Dow Chemical Company, FMC, and Praxair. These companies manufacture active ingredients for agricultural, industrial, personal care and other products. Total employment at the site is approximately 700 people.
