Airbus Selects Goodrich External Video System for A350 XWB Aircraft

Posted on: Monday, 4 May 2009, 08:05 CDT

CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 4, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) has been selected by Airbus to supply the external video system for the new A350 XWB commercial aircraft. Goodrich expects the award to generate more than $1 billion in original equipment and aftermarket revenue over the life of the program. Work will be performed by Goodrich's Sensors and Integrated Systems teams in Burnsville, Minn. and Toulouse, France.

The external video system integrates all video information inside and outside the aircraft, processes it for display and sends it to the flight deck. The system includes three externallymounted digital video cameras and two Concentrator-Multiplexer for Video (CMV) avionics modules. The CMVs receive information from the ruggedized external video cameras, multiple internal cabin video sources and from the On-board Information System. The information is processed into high quality video images viewable by the flight crew over the flight deck displays.

"Goodrich's A350 external video system is evidence of our ability to offer customers fully integrated video solutions," said Jan Mathiesen, vice president, Goodrich Sensors and Integrated Systems. "This award further expands our growing portfolio of video products which includes electronic flights bags, video surveillance systems, and other Cockpit Data Management Solutions(TM). Our agility in meeting changing customer business needs has allowed us to certify applications across commercial transport aircraft, regional aircraft and business jets."

The external video system is part of Goodrich's Cockpit Data Management Solutions(TM) which are designed to reduce workload, improve overall flight operations and ultimately reduce operating costs. The solutions allow flight crews, flight operations, maintenance departments and information technology departments to efficiently manage information flow to and from the flight deck.

Goodrich's content on the A350 XWB also includes the nacelle and thrust reverser system, wheels and carbon brakes, air data system and ice detection system.
