Grains mixed in Chicago Monday

Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday as stocks rose solidly in New York and the dollar fell against the yen and the euro.

Corn was off 7 3/4 to off 8 1/4, soybeans were up 3 1/2 to up 13 1/4, wheat was off 18 1/2 to off 19 and oats were off 4 to off 6.

Corn shipments have reached 65.2 percent of the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecast for the season, ahead of a five-year average of 64.4 percent for this time of year. Shipments reached 93.9 percent against an historic average of 89.6 percent. Soybean shipments are one tick behind, 84.3 percent, compared to an average 84.4 percent.

Corn: May 3.98, off 8 1/4; Jul 4.05 1/2, off 8 1/4; Sep 4.14 1/2, off 8; Dec 4.25 1/2, off 7 3/4.

Soybeans: May 11.15 1/4, up 13 1/4; Jul 11.03 1/2, up 12 1/2; Aug 10.68, up 9; Sep 10.14 1/2, up 3 1/2.

Wheat: May 5.38 1/2, off 18 3/4; Jul 5.51, off 19; Sep 5.77 1/2, off 19; Dec 6.00, off 18 1/2.

Oats: May 1.96, off 4; Jul 2.01, off 6; Sep 2.10, off 6; Dec 2.23, off 6.
