Crude oil prices head up Tuesday

Crude oil prices rose early Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange following an improved outlook in stock markets.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed above 900 points Monday for the first time in 2009, an indication that strength is returning to equities.
Crude oil prices gained 75 cents overnight to $54.52 per barrel. Heating oil prices fell 0.0019 cents to $1.4326 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline rose 0.0106 cents to $1.5966 per gallon. Natural gas prices fell 0.025 cents to $3.70 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.079 Tuesday, up from Monday’s $2.073 a gallon, AAA said.
