U.S. stocks Friday bounced back from the previous session's terrorism shock and also defied rising oil prices.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 130.66 or 1.27 percent to 10,432.95 in early afternoon trading. The Nasdaq composite rose 28.00 or 1.35 percent to 2,103.66, and the Standard & Poor's 500 climbed 11.53 or 0.96 percent to 1,209.40.
Crude oil rose to $61.59 per barrel in New York trading, and the U.S. Labor Department issued an employment report that seemed weak to some investors.
The 10-year Treasury note added 5/32, or $1.56 per $1,000 invested, for a 4.08 percent yield.
The dollar rose, hitting 112.24 yen from 112.08 as the euro fell to $1.1938 from $1.1943. The British pound continued its 10-week slide, tumbling to $1.7415, a 19-month low.
Tokyo's Nikkei 225 closed at 11,565.99 after falling 24.15 or 0.21 percent, and London's FTSE 100 rose 1.38 percent or 71.40 to settle at 5,229.70.
