OG&E Seeks Suppliers of Smart Grid Technology Products and Services

Posted on: Thursday, 7 May 2009, 13:50 CDT

Request for Qualification issued this week

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In preparation for its proposed Positive Energy(R) SmartPower program, OG&E will issue a request for qualification this week, inviting suppliers of smart grid technology products and services to respond.

As part of its rate case filed in February with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, OG&E proposed a project that would establish Norman as a Positive Energy Community featuring widespread installation of smart meters and a 2,000-customer energy portal demonstration project.

The Commission is expected to decide this summer whether OG&E can recover the cost of the proposed program. With Commission approval, the program would be implemented beginning in summer 2010.

The request for qualification will provide preliminary information to potential suppliers about the program and will allow OG&E to create a list of pre-qualified suppliers who will be invited to participate in a request for proposal, which will be issued later this summer.

Products and services the company is seeking include

  • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems
  • Supporting communication services
  • Meter Data Management Systems
  • Meter Event Managers/Operational Data Stores
  • Demand Response and Distributed Generation Management Systems
  • Smart Meters
  • Home Area Network (HAN) equipment including in-home displays, programmable communicating thermostats, load control equipment, HAN-related energy program management services and HAN communication systems
  • Web-based customer portals for energy management services

Anyone interested in the request for qualifications can find more information at OG&E's SmartPower RFQual Web page, http://www.oge.com/smartpowerrfp/

OG&E, a regulated electric utility with approximately 772,000 customers in a service area spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas, is a subsidiary of Oklahoma City-based OGE Energy Corp. (NYSE: OGE), which also is the parent of Enogex LLC, a midstream natural gas pipeline business with principal operations in Oklahoma.
