WABCO Announces First Major Contract for EcoSmart Clutch Compressor, a Breakthrough Technology that Boosts Fuel Economy Gains and Reduces Emissions for Trucks and Buses

BRUSSELS, Belgium, May 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WABCO Holdings Inc. (http://www.wabco-auto.com) (NYSE: WBC), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today announced that WABCO has been awarded a contract by a major original equipment manufacturer in Europe to supply EcoSmart(TM) systems to equip their heavy duty truck engines for series production starting in 2011. WABCO's EcoSmart system is a breakthrough in air compression technology for trucks and buses that substantially improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.

WABCO's new EcoSmart clutch compressor optimally disengages a truck or bus compressor from the engine when the vehicle's air system reaches full pressure. This innovation is WABCO's latest in a series of breakthrough technologies that enable significant gains in fuel efficiency while benefiting the environment through reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

WABCO's new EcoSmart system is designed to reduce total cost of vehicle ownership annually by as much as $1,250 through fuel savings alone. In addition, it will reduce wear on the compressor and prolong its life. It also contributes to cleaner air and less impact on the environment because it can reduce CO2 emission by as much as 5,000 pounds per vehicle on an annual basis.
