Walgreen Co. taps superheroes

U.S. retailer Walgreen Co., is joining with a team of superheroes to promote customized merchandise, the company said Friday.

The company will partner with Marvel Entertainment to create toys and food products that incorporate images of Marvel characters, such as Iron Man, the Hulk and Spider-man, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The merchandise is expected to be available in Walgreen's more than 6,000 stores early next year, Walgreens spokeswoman Tiffani Washington said.

Walgreens is also testing new store layouts in an attempt to simplify the shopping experience for customers. The company tested layouts with shorter shelves and consolidated product arrangements at 35 outlets this spring.

We got to the point where we were trying to anticipate too many consumer needs. We had so much to choose from, we complicated the shopping process, Washington said.
