Snowmobile engine heaters recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Widetrak snowmobile engine block and battery heaters due to a shock hazard.
Cold weather can cause the insulation on the electrical cord for the heaters to fail, presenting consumers with a risk of shock, the commission said in a statement.
About 530 of the heaters were sold by Polaris Industries Inc. of Medina, Minn., at dealers nationwide from January 2008 through January 2009 for between $70 and $80. The Widetrak snowmobiles were sold from April 2008 through February 2009 for about $8,400, the commission said.
Consumers were advised to stop using the engine block heaters and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair.
