Media Advisory: CSX Transportation (CSXT) Representatives Available to Discuss Clearer Roads, Cleaner Skies for Memorial Day

Posted on: Monday, 18 May 2009, 08:30 CDT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by CSX Transportation:

What: More than 27 million drivers will crowd American highways this Memorial Day weekend. As holiday travelers encounter congested highways and construction delays, most are unaware of the role played by freight rail companies such as CSX Transportation (CSXT) in reducing congestion, improving safety on the roads and decreasing air pollution.

Bob Sullivan and Gary Sease of CSXT will be available for radio and print interviews on the benefits of rail transportation:

Road Congestion - One train can carry the load of more than 280 trucks, freeing room for approximately 1,100 passenger cars.

Road Safety - Memorial Day marks the beginning of the most dangerous season for car accidents. Reducing highway congestion reduces the likelihood of accidents by taking more vehicles off the road and decreasing time spent driving.

Environmental Benefits - Moving freight by rail is three times more fuel-efficient than moving freight on the highway. In fact, trains can move a ton of freight more than 436 miles on a single gallon of fuel.

Who: Bob Sullivan - director, corporate communications, CSXT

Bob Sullivan is a 30-year veteran of the railroad industry. A former Conrail employee, Sullivan joined CSXT upon its acquisition of Conrail in 1999. He is an expert on a broad range of railroad and transportation issues, including rail infrastructure, public-private partnerships, safety, security and the environmental benefits of rail transportation. Prior to joining the railroad industry, Sullivan worked for five years in print journalism.

Gary Sease - director, corporate communications, CSXT

Gary Sease is a 22-year veteran of CSXT. He is currently the media relations team coordinator and has directed employee communications in the past. A Jacksonville native, Sease is a third-generation railroader, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers and father. He is a graduate of the University of Florida, and worked as a wire service and newspaper reporter for 12 years before joining CSX in 1986.

When: Bob Sullivan and Gary Sease are available for interviews the week of May 18.
