This donation is part of Baby2Baby's monthly distribution of baby gear and clothing collected from the community and private donors such as Green to Grow, and redistributed to a network of shelters and support organizations serving needy families with children ages 0-4.
"With fewer subsidies and resources available, families in need are increasingly reliant on non-profits and the philanthropy of private enterprise to meet many of their basic needs," says Baby2Baby co-founder Michael. "More importantly, all children regardless of their socio-economic strata should have access to healthy, natural products and that's why this donation is so important and appreciated."
Green to Grow's donation is part of its ongoing outreach philosophy in which it gives back to communities in need while helping to educate them through quality product development and issue awareness. Aronoff says, "We believe in the power of knowledge and direct action, not waiting for change to happen. We are doing what we can now to protect families and the earth."
In addition to its new product donation to Baby2Baby, Green to Grow has also created the Bottles to Babies initiative. Bottles to Babies uses the Green to Grow web site as a vehicle to connect customers who are no longer using their baby bottles with local non-profit organizations and women's shelters that accept new or gently-used baby bottle donations, Green to Grow partners with these organizations and donates new nipples to be used with donated bottles. Green to Grow's Bottles to Babies initiative is truly a grassroots effort. With the help and support of its customers, Green to Grow is in the process of developing a national database of donation drop off locations.
Green to Grow has always committed to seeking environmentally sound business solutions and considers the environmental impact of every decision it makes. The company uses 100% recycled paper and soy inks in all of its packaging and printed corporate materials and has partnered with 1% for the Planet, pledging to donate one percent of its annual sales to environmental literacy education in the K-12 curriculum.
The decision to launch Green to Grow with a line of BPA-free plastic baby bottles grew from the founders growing knowledge and research on the potential dangers presented by polycarbonate plastic, which contains the hormone disruptor bisphenol A--a neurological, developmental, and reproductive toxicant--and from their frustration over the lack of options in the market. The founders believed concerned parents, like themselves, would welcome safer alternatives even if they cost more due to the higher price of the raw materials used. Moreover, in their efforts to ensure the highest level of quality and safety, they have their bottles periodically spot tested for BPA, phthalates, and lead at environmental laboratories in
