Gothic Cabinet Craft bunk beds recalled

May 21, 2009

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Gothic Cabinet Craft bunk beds due to a fall hazard.

The beds do not have sufficient headboards, footboards or guardrails, the commission said in a statement. A child could also get caught in the gap of the upper bunk that allows a small body to pass through, but not a child’s head, posing a possibility of strangulation, the commission said.

About 1,500 beds, made by Gothic Cabinet Craft Inc. of Maspeth, N.Y., were sold in New York and New Jersey form June 2000 through October 2008 for between $225 and $850 each.

Both metal and wooden bunk beds are involved in the recall.

Consumers were advised to stop using the beds immediately and contact Gothic Cabinet Craft for a free repair.

Consumers can call 877-946-8442 for information.
