Aetna says Web site hacked

Aetna Inc., based in Connecticut, learned security was breached on an employment Web site when job seekers reported getting phony e-mails, officials say.
Cynthia Michener, a spokeswoman for the company, told the Tri-City Herald in Washington state the hackers got access to e-mails. But she said Aetna does not know if they were able to get Social Security numbers or other critical information.
She said the company was offering credit monitoring for a year to 65,000 people.
We know for certain that the e-mails were accessed, we don't know whether or not anything else was accessed,
she said. But we're erring on the side of caution, we want people to know.
A contractor has done a thorough forensic review
but was unable to find out how the hackers penetrated the site, Michener said.
She said the site was shut down immediately once the company realized security had been breached.
