Vectron International Announces Expanded Portfolio of Oscillators Suitable for Space Applications

June 9, 2009

Customer Demand Driving Need for High Reliability Versions of Filters, Clocks, VCXOs, TCXOs, and OCXOs

Boston, June 9 /PRNewswire/ – Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced from the 2009 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium the availability of space-level crystals which add to its existing high reliability space portfolio of filters, clocks, VCXOs, TCXOs and OCXOs. Space qualified crystals are now available in 4-point mount TO-5 and TO-8 packages from 3 MHz to 200 MHz. Crystals utilize either AT or doubly rotated (IT and SC) cut crystals from fundamental frequencies to 7th overtones. These space-level products will provide customers with the same high-level quality crystals which Vectron utilizes in its own high reliability designs for space. The company will showcase these new products in Booth 807 at the 2009 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, to be held June 9-11, 2009 in Boston, Mass.

“Vectron’s 40-plus years of experience in providing premier frequency control solutions for the space industry allows us a unique level of understanding for our customers’ applications for these crystals,” said Dave Bail, director of product marketing, Industrial, Military and Space Business Unit, Vectron International. “Our extensive in-house capabilities allow us to control the process from cutting through fully integrated seal process to extensive custom testing and screening, which ultimately translates into a crystal that is designed and manufactured to the specific needs of our space customers.”

The space-level products are manufactured in state-of-the-art cleanrooms and all testing and screening to MIL-PRF-3098 and MIL-PRF-55310 is performed internally. In-house assembly and testing allows Vectron to have tight controls on processes, traceability and schedule, while minimizing handling.

“At Vectron, we are committed to investing in R&D and working with customers to bring to market leading-edge technologies and solutions, by using our financial strength, market expertise, and state-of-the-art facilities and resources,” said Greg Smolka, vice president, Industrial, Military and Space Business Unit, Vectron International. “The addition of crystal capability expands Vectron’s portfolio of space offerings and provides our customers with more options for their high reliability product needs.”

Vectron’s proven high reliability space solutions are represented in many leading space programs and have been designed into various space, communication and earth observation satellite applications including the Mars Pathfinder, Iridium satellites and Globalstar satellite phones, as well as in various space shuttle and manned space station projects. The company’s new solutions leverage Vectron’s deep space heritage to offer high reliability versions of the full range of Vectron’s offerings.
