Part of TI’s solar strategy is advancing designs of leading manufacturers of solar power equipment to increase energy output and drive costs down, which will help make solar power a viable option for consumers. TI semiconductors are integral components in innovative energy technologies, which help end-equipment designers find new ways to lower energy consumption, increase power efficiency and uncover new energy sources.
“TI has delivered embedded processing and analog solutions to the solar market for over a decade, and our efforts in the 2009 Solar Decathlon further solidify our commitment to the industry,” said
TI solar initiatives:
- TI is the market share leader in embedded processing microcontrollers for the solar inverter market today, and as a result the company is committed to helping solar energy achieve grid parity in the years to come.
- The recent boom in global solar research and development is creating widely varying technology solutions. TI is working to stay ahead of the research and development curve, developing and providing the best possible component technologies to its customers when they need it.
- TI is investigating various types of solar cells and panels, enabling TI to develop and provide an ever-improving array of chips and components for its customers’ inverter and converter designs.
Sponsor of 2009 Solar Decathlon:
- TI is a returning sponsor for the 2009 Solar Decathlon, a competition hosted by the United States Department of Energy (DoE) that challenges 20 universities from around the globe to design, build and operate attractive, energy efficient solar-powered homes. The homes will be showcased on the National Mall in
Washington D.C. October 9-18 2009 . - TI is also a Gold Sponsor of the 2009 University of Illinois Solar Decathlon team. The
University of Illinois is the alma mater ofJack Kilby , the TI engineer who invented the integrated circuit. - As part of the university sponsorship, TI is donating an energy efficient DLP(R) HDTV to be used in the house design. Additionally, TI engineers are mentoring the
University of Illinois student team by providing direct engineering and consulting support as the team designs and builds its home.
TI focus on smart energy solutions:
- The MSP430 Solar Energy Harvesting Development Tool enables perpetually powered wireless sensor network applications.
- The Piccolo(TM) and Delfino(TM) microcontroller series, designed to be used in solar systems from micro-inverters to full centralized inverters, make consumers’ solar power systems more efficient and cost effective.
- The Renewable Energy Developer’s Kit speeds the development of advanced, digitally controlled renewable energy systems.
