Report Provides Guidance to State and Local Governments on Reporting Greenhouse Gas Emissions
"Regulations that have been passed or proposed at the state and federal levels, combined with a greater public consciousness of climate change, make tracking greenhouse gas emissions an emerging priority for local government leaders," said Joseph Aamidor, Program Director at CivicUS. "While there are a number of inexpensive tools that help jurisdictions understand their greenhouse gas emissions, some companies are offering more elaborate systems that can develop auditable estimates. This Research Note helps government leaders understand the changing greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and reporting landscape."
While many jurisdictions currently are using inexpensive GHG reporting tools, CivicUS recommends that governments consider investing in more expensive systems that can generate verifiable inventories and emissions reduction plans.
CivicUS recently held briefings and teleconferences to discuss key issues facing government leaders in the environment and public safety fields. Transcripts of the teleconferences are forthcoming.
