Roadcheck Results Show Improvements in Highway Safety Compliance

ARLINGTON, Va., June 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Results from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Roadcheck 2009 show nationwide improvements in highway safety compliance, including a significant increase in the number of commercial drivers and vehicles that passed roadside inspections.

Figures also show that the number of commercial motor vehicle drivers wearing safety belts improved by more than 22 percent over last year.

CVSA’s annual Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial vehicles in the world. During the 72-hour period from June 2-4, 2009, CVSA and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration certified inspectors performed 57,013 North American Standard (NAS) Level I inspections, the most comprehensive roadside inspection.

The vehicle compliance rate of 77.8 percent and the driver compliance rate of 96.1 percent mark the highest compliance rates ever for the NAS Level I inspections. These figures represented 7.1 and 20.4 percent improvements respectively over last year’s totals.

ATA has supported CVSA’s Roadcheck program since its inception and has worked cooperatively with CVSA to determine emphasis areas.
