Briggs & Stratton to close Wisconsin plant
U.S. small engine giant Briggs & Stratton Corp. said it will close a Jefferson, Wis., factory, eliminating 530 jobs.
About 100 salaried workers from the plant that makes pressure washers and power generators will be offered jobs at other company locations, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.
The plant had recently been pushing capacity with orders resulting from hurricanes last fall that left millions of people without power. At this point, however, the recession has sapped demand, the company said.
