WASHINGTON, July 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Defense Business Board issued a preview of its findings and recommendations on the National Security Personnel System. In response John Gage, AFGE national president, released the following statement:
"Since it was initially introduced the National Security Personnel System has spread throughout the Department of Defense like a virus. Unfortunately, despite being able to diagnose the disease, the Defense Business Board is withholding the cure. The Defense Business Board decided to ignore its own findings and recommend that the Department of Defense reconstruct NSPS. The Board acknowledged that the controversial personnel system is overly complex and lacks transparency, but appears to believe that these flaws can be corrected by the same career ideologues who invented them in the first place.
There should be no mistake that there is no amount of retooling or reshaping that can remedy the inherent flaws in the system. The decision made by the Defense Business Board is wrong headed. And, while the Board did recommend continuing the moratorium on transitions of more work units into NSPS and to continue to exclude bargaining unit and federal wage employees from being converted into the system, we are committed to making sure that this folly comes to a swift and abrupt end for all DoD employees and for all government workers. The only reasonable solution to the intractable problems of NSPS is to obliterate the misguided personnel system completely. The Obama administration must understand that these recommendations are completely unacceptable. In the interest of good government we will not stop until this discriminatory, complex, and opaque system is gone for good."
