STANFORD, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- ALWAYSON STANFORD SUMMIT -- ProntoTreno, the new voice-powered Trenitalia service that lets train riders access the functions of http://www.trenitalia.com directly on their mobile phones, will soon to be available to Italian iPhone owners from Apple's App Store.
Created by Promptu Systems Corporation, ProntoTreno enables Italian iPhone owners to search timetables, check train punctuality, buy tickets, and change bookings on the fly. The application is built on Promptu's fully automated Network Speech Recognition (NSR) platform, so ProntoTreno users can simply speak their trip details to search schedules and initiate ticket purchases.
"Promptu's voice-powered mobile phone applications are taking European transportation markets by storm, and quickly heading for the U.S.," said Giuseppe Staffaroni, CEO of the Menlo Park, CA-based maker of voice-powered mobile phone applications. "We're making the rail travel experience faster and more convenient for passengers. At the same time we're reducing operating costs and increasing customer loyalty through improved service."
Promptu's iPhone application is much faster than traditional Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, and allows Europe's third largest rail operator to handle more concurrent customers, while at the same time reducing its infrastructure requirements.
"ProntoTreno was designed to deliver measurably faster transaction times and dramatically reduce the number of customer support touch points," said Staffaroni.
The ProntoTreno service is free except for the cost of the data connection, which depends on the mobile phone provider.
"ProntoTreno is amazingly simple and fast," said Staffaroni. "You just say what you want to do - travel from Rome to Milan, for example - and it pulls up the schedule. The purchase can be completed within the application, and the e-ticket is stored on the handset for you to show to the conductor. I've used it many times when dashing for a train. It couldn't be easier or more convenient."
