Continental to offer in-flight TV programs

Continental Airlines said it would mimic a move made by U.S. discount carriers by offering in-flight satellite television broadcasts to passengers.

JetBlue, Virgin America and Frontier have already outfitted planes with TV screens that pick up programs in real time -- as opposed to taped programming -- USA Today reported Thursday.

Continental said it would charge passengers in coach $6 for the service, while providing it free of charge to first-class fliers.

The airline said it would have 220 planes outfitted with televisions providing passengers with 77 channels to choose from within the next 12 months.
