DURHAM, N.C., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- PlotWatt, a cleantech startup focused on helping consumers cut their electricity bills, has been awarded a development grant from the North Carolina Green Business Fund. The $40,000 grant will be used to refine software and expand pilot testing of the PlotWatt real-time energy analytics platform.
"This award is a vote of confidence from a panel of clean technology experts," said PlotWatt founder Luke Fishback. "It is an acknowledgement both of our team's specific solutions and of the more general opportunity to see residential energy reduction as a viable source of clean energy."
PlotWatt is creating technology to complement the evolving electricity infrastructure. "Richer energy consumption data will be a big part of the smart grid. The question of what to do with the data once it's collected is largely unanswered. That's where we come in. We're creating tools to make the smart grid useful for consumers," said Fishback.
The North Carolina Green Business Fund, established in 2007, awards competitive grants to organizations within the state for work on innovative projects focused on three priority areas: 1) biofuels, 2) green building and 3) private sector investment and entrepreneurial growth in environmentally conscious clean technology and renewable energy products and businesses.
