SABESP’s Net Income Grows 29.1% in 2Q09

SAO PAULO, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Companhia de Saneamento Basico do Estado de Sao Paulo – SABESP (BM&FBovespa: SBSP3; NYSE: SBS), one of the largest water and sewage service providers in the world based on the number of customers, announces today its results for the 2Q09.

In 2Q09, net operating revenue totaled R$ 1.6 billion, a 7.3% increase compared to 2Q08. Costs and expenses, stood at R$ 1.1 billion, 8.3% higher than in 2Q08. EBITDA grew 4.8%, from R$ 636.0 million in 2Q08 to R$ 666.8 million in 2Q09.

Earnings before financial expenses (EBIT) increased 5.0%, from R$ 481.1 million in 2Q08 to R$ 505.3 million in 2Q09.

In 2Q09, gross operating revenue grew R$ 116.3 million, or 7.1%, from R$ 1.6 billion in 2Q08 to R$ 1.7 billion in 2Q09.
