Washington State Attorney General's Office Awards Contract to Applied Technical Systems for Data Mining Solution

Posted on: Tuesday, 11 August 2009, 09:00 CDT

SILVERDALE, Wash., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Technical Systems (ATS) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the Washington State Attorney General's Office to develop a data mining solution for the Homicide Investigation Tracking System (HITS) database. The new solution will be built upon ATS' patent-pending Relationship Generating Graph Analysis Engine (REGGAE), a technology platform that contains capabilities found in both multidimensional and graph database stores and allows for deep data mining and knowledge discovery.

In 2007, Attorney General Rob McKenna asked the Legislature for funding to streamline the HITS database. The goal was to better integrate multiple criminal databases, increasing the ease with which they may be searched by law enforcement. These databases include information about registered sex offenders and convicts tracked by the Department of Corrections. The Legislature granted $400,000 in funding between 2007 and 2009. A portion of that budget allocation funds the ATS contract.

"ATS has been involved in solving complex data problems since the 1980s," said David Wachter, President and co-CEO of Applied Technical Systems. "Our track record of developing advanced data mining solutions for the intelligence community, the Department of Defense and other government agencies combined with our REGGAE database technology will allow us to quickly and cost-effectively develop and implement a solution for the Washington Attorney General's HITS unit."

The REGGAE-based solution to be developed by ATS under the contract will enable HITS investigators to analyze and resolve complex data relationships, discover potentially useful links and patterns, and facilitate the resolution of violent crimes and apprehension and prosecution of violent criminals.
