Alliance uses national and state TV, expanded grassroots outreach to highlight benefits of clean energy jobs and urgency of climate crisis
WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With America's working families still struggling, the Alliance for Climate Protection today released a new television ad pointing to the positive impacts of comprehensive clean energy and climate policies for American families.
The ad, entitled "Family Values," makes the case that economists and scientists have been making for years: transitioning to a clean energy economy will create good-paying jobs made in America, cut harmful carbon pollution that threatens our planet and lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
"I'm not looking for a bailout -- just a good-paying job," says the father figure that narrates the ad, "That's why I like this clean energy idea. Now that works . . . for our whole family. For the kids, a better environment. For my wife who commutes, no more getting jerked around on gas prices. And for me, well, it wouldn't be so bad if this breadwinner brought home a little more bread."
Alliance for Climate Protection President and CEO Maggie L. Fox said, "We know transitioning to clean energy is an economic necessity. Families need savings on their energy bills, workers need good jobs with good wages that clean energy can deliver and our manufacturing sector must stay competitive in the industries of the future. This is also a values question: what type of economy, environment and future do we want to pass on to our children? Lower energy bills, good jobs and a healthy planet are family values."
According to the Center for American Progress, House-passed clean energy and climate legislation combined with clean energy investments in the economic stimulus could generate a net increase of 1.7 million jobs in the clean energy sector. And transitioning to a clean energy economy will also help lower energy bills for working families. The Union of Concerned Scientists found that comprehensive clean energy and climate policies could save American households an average of $900 a year by 2030.
Complementing the new national television ad, the Alliance, through its Repower America campaign, is establishing itself as a presence out in the states, recruiting new members and supporters across the country. The Alliance's Repower America campaign now has more than 150 staff on the ground working in 25 offices in 22 states.
On August 20, Repower America will join with the Blue Green Alliance to kick off the "Made in America" clean energy jobs tour that will consist of more than 50 events in 22 states. The tour, which will start in Cleveland, Ohio, will stress the job-creation potential of comprehensive clean energy and climate policies and will include events in states such as Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania.
State-focused Repower America radio and television spots will also be aired through a separate campaign funded by the Climate Protection Action Fund.
