Time Inc. to track Detroit from new house

Time Inc. employees say the media company has purchased a five-bedroom home in Detroit to use as a headquarters for tracking the city's daily events.

The Detroit Free Press said Sunday the home purchased by Time Inc., which publishes magazines such as Time and People, is located in Detroit's West Village and represents a new form of immersion journalism.

While a Time Inc. spokesman would not offer specific details on the company's project in Detroit, an unidentified Time reporter has said he would be relocating to the home sometime this summer.

The Time Inc. project comes as media interest in Detroit has reached a new peak thanks to the impact of the struggling U.S. economy on the city's auto industry, the Free Press reported.

The Detroit newspaper said while other major news outlets previously had offices in Detroit, those outlets would allow their reporters to stay at places of their choosing instead of in one location like the new Time Inc. home.
