France Telecom to cut U.S. research center
French telecommunications giant France Telecom said it would close a laboratory in Boston to consolidate its research and development.
France Telecom’s research and development staff includes about 5,000 workers. In Boston, 50 researchers will lose their jobs when the center closes in October, Radio France Internationale reported Wednesday.
This closure is part of our project to optimize out research centers. A few months ago, we had announced our wish to focus on bigger centers, a company spokesperson said.
The spokesperson, who was not named, said research in Boston, which includes voice recognition for Internet blogging through mobile phones, was duplicated at other research facilities.
