NORESCO to Implement a $1.7 Million Energy Efficiency Project for Mineral Wells Independent School District

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NORESCO, a national leader in energy savings, will implement a guaranteed energy savings agreement worth $1.7 million for the Independent School District in Mineral Wells, Texas. Structured as an energy savings performance contract (ESPC), the project will enable the school district, at no upfront cost to taxpayers, to implement infrastructure improvements at eight facilities, totaling 598,000 square feet. NORESCO is a subsidiary of Carrier Corp., which is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The savings realized from reduced energy and water consumption will pay for the initial equipment investment, installation and financing. Over time, the enhancements will reduce maintenance expenses and increase energy conservation. Bob Radomski, group director, NORESCO, stated, "Mineral Wells Independent School District is taking advantage of a powerful self-funding financial technique authorized by the state legislature and promoted by the Texas State Energy Conservation Office. The key savings drivers for the project are lighting system upgrades, new building automation and control systems, and conventional plumbing fixture replacements. New infield lighting at the Mineral Wells High School softball and baseball field will increase energy efficiency after practices and games when the infield is groomed.
The high school will realize other efficiency gains through expansion of the existing energy management system, to include conversion from three-way to two-way control valves on all air handling units and installation of variable speed drives on chilled water pumps, hot water pumps and air handling unit supply air fan motors. These components, integrated with the existing controls' graphical interface, will allow communication over the school district's computer network to provide staff with secure web-enabled access to manage equipment more efficiently.
