ATRI Updates Idling Regulations Compendium to Reflect Recent Changes in Texas

Posted on: Monday, 31 August 2009, 16:06 CDT

ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has updated the listing of state and local idling regulations to reflect recent changes in Texas. The updated listing, which can be found at www.atri-online.org, is provided in two forms, a cab card which can be carried in the glove box of a truck and the online compendium which provides links to individual regulations.

As of September 1, 2009, certain cities and counties in Texas will no longer allow drivers to idle their trucks while using a sleeper berth to comply with government-mandated rest periods. A number of Texas cities and counties have agreed to enforcement of a State regulation which limits idling to 5-minutes from April through October while providing some operational exemptions. Local enforcement agreements have been established in the following areas:

Cities: Arlington, Austin, Bastrop, Benbrook, Celina, Cedar Hill, Colleyville, Dallas, Elgin, Euless, Georgetown, Hurst, Hutto, Keene, Lake Worth, Lancaster, Little Elm, Lockhart, Luling, Mabank, McKinney, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, Pecan Hill, Round Rock, Rowlett, San Marcos, University Park, Westlake

Counties: Bastrop, Caldwell, Collin, Hays, Kaufman, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson

ATRI continues to monitor the development of idling regulations across the country and maintains the compendium and cab card as a free service to help trucking companies and truck drivers comply with the increasing number of state and local idling regulations.

ATRI is the trucking industry's 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation's essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
