Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio Announces the Retirement of Executive Director

Posted on: Tuesday, 1 September 2009, 13:44 CDT

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio (NHS) announces the retirement of Robert Jodon, Executive Director, effective December 31, 2009.

Jodon has served as Executive Director of NHS for 15 years and has grown the organization from an entity with an operating budget of $442,000 in 1994 when he started, to a current operating budget right at $1 million.

Since 1995 NHS has completed more than 125 rehabs; built more than 300 new construction homes; made almost 500 second mortgage loans to low-income families buying an existing home; and certified more than 2,000 families through the NHS pre-purchase homebuyers educations classes, with another 400 families successfully completing the NHS post purchase classes since 2003.

"NHS has built a considerable pool of funds for making loans under Robert's leadership. His replacement will be challenged to deploy these funds and make a significant number of new homeowners out of San Antonio families. Building, rehabilitating and/or financing affordable homes is the key to successful community development and revitalization, and NHS's goal remains to be the premier provider of these services in San Antonio," stated NHS Board Chair Keith Sultemeier, CFO for Security Service Federal Credit Union.

Asked what he thought was his greatest accomplishment at NHS, Jodon stated that his "greatest accomplishment is working with the Board and staff to establish NHS as a certified and financially sound Community Develop Financial Institution (CDFI) with awards of more than $2 million from the U.S. Department of Treasury since 2001."

Before coming to work at NHS, Jodon was the Executive Director of the City of San Antonio Housing Trust Fund for 5 years. "My 15 years at NHS has been the most rewarding time of my entire professional life. I love the mission and greatly admire the professional staff and many volunteers that built the organization into the success it is today. I will miss the wonderful people there even as I watch the organization attain even greater success," said Jodon.

NHS of San Antonio, a 501c3 non-profit agency, and CDFI is a builder and lender for affordable housing in San Antonio and Bexar County. Over the last 15 years NHS has made more than 1,000 loans totaling more than $12 million. NHS's bank partners have made more than $25 million in loans in combination with NHS loans over the same period.

As a not-for-profit NeighborWorks Organization, NHS is a certified Full Cycle Lender. Offering pre-purchase counseling, homebuyer education, and post-purchase counseling and training, NHS of San Antonio has put hundreds of families on the path to successful home ownership.

"When someone like Robert who has been with your organization for such a long time and done so much for it mentions retirement, that's never welcome news. Not surprisingly, Robert followed his announcement with an open ended commitment to remain in place until a new leader can be selected and transitioned into the job. Robert is a class act, and he will be missed," stated Sultemeier.

NHS is currently accepting resumes from applicants qualified for this position through September 15. Basic qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree; seven years' executive director experience in running a like-size organization; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; knowledge of affordable housing and mortgage financing, etc. To apply for this position, go to the following link: https://administaff.ats.hrsmart.com/cgi-bin/a/highlightjob.cgi?jobid=54630
