Construction Executive John Scherer New President and Owner of Fort Lauderdale-Based Gulf Building Corp.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The ownership of Gulf Building Corp., best known for its hospitality, custom residential and public projects, has changed hands with the recently completed purchase of the firm by former Vice President of Construction and now President and owner, John Scherer, it was announced today. Terms of the purchase were not made public.
Scherer succeeds as president, John D. Collins, a well-known builder in South Florida for more than 30 years who founded the firm in 1990.
"It is my good fortune to have worked with John Collins, who I consider one of South Florida's most accomplished builders and businessmen, and also to take the reigns of a great company with a bright future," said Scherer. He said Gulf Building has recently completed a number of successful public projects and that the company expects to largely focus on that sector in the near future.
Scherer, 31, began his career supervising construction for the South Florida University system. A native Fort Lauderdale resident, Scherer holds a degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida and a J.D. from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. He was recently appointed by Gov. Charlie Crist to the Florida Building Commission. Scherer also currently serves as the Chairman of the Unsafe Structures Board, City of Fort Lauderdale, Board of Directors for Associated Builders and Contractors, Florida East Coast Chapter, and the Affordable Housing Board for Broward County.
Gulf Building Corp. offers a full range of construction services including architecture, general contracting, construction management and interior design. Its portfolio includes new construction and renovation in the hotel, medical, office, educational, residential industrial and governmental sectors.
Recent public projects completed by Gulf Building include the Miramar Multi-Service Complex, the Miramar Ansin Sports Complex, and the new Public Safety Complex at the Big Cypress Seminole Community.
