ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will conduct Brake Safety Week, Sept. 13-19, as part of their Operation Air Brake Campaign dedicated to improving inspection, compliance, maintenance and performance of commercial vehicle brakes throughout North America.

“ATA supports CVSA’s effort to enhance knowledge, regulatory compliance and performance of commercial vehicle braking systems,” said ATA Vice President Dave Osiecki. “These initiatives help to improve safety on our nation’s highways.”

Throughout the week, CVSA-certified inspectors, brake suppliers and industry partners will conduct enforcement and education activities with drivers and mechanics at truck stops, weigh stations and other locations.

CVSA-certified officers will conduct Level I and Brake-Only inspections, and will deploy performance-based brake testers at a number of inspection locations. In addition, CVSA officers will administer driver surveys and distribute educational brochures.

“Braking systems on commercial vehicles are critical and need consistent attention to ensure proper performance,” said Osiecki. “Increasing educational outreach through these types of initiatives will help drivers and mechanics effectively maintain these vital systems.”

The American Trucking Associations is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry. Through a federation of other trucking groups, industry-related conferences, and its 50 affiliated state trucking associations, ATA represents more than 37,000 members covering every type of motor carrier in the United States.
