Corn futures close mostly lower

Corn futures closed mostly lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday headed into a harvest season with promising weather ahead.

Corn was off 1 3/4 to off 9 1/2, soybeans were off 2 3/4 to off 59 1/2 to up 6, wheat was off 10 3/4 to off 13 1/4 and oats were off 2 to off 2 1/2.

Corn futures closed lower as forecasts of a widespread frost were pushed back to 11-15 days away. Wheat closed lower as the U.S. Department of Agriculture said 58 percent of the spring wheat crop has been harvested. Soybean futures were mixed with purchases to South Korea — 110,000 metric tons — and China — 113,000 metric tons — announced Monday.

Corn: Sep 3.05, off 9 1/2; Dec 3.17 3/4, off 2; Mar 3.31 1/4, off 1 3/4; May 3.40 1/2, off 2.

Soybeans: Sep 9.25, off 59 1/2; Nov 9.09, up 6; Jan 9.13 3/4, up 3 3/4; Mar 9.18 1/4, up 2 3/4.

Wheat: Sep 4.31, off 10 3/4; Dec 4.54, off 13 1/4; Mar 4.73 3/4, off 13 1/4; May 4.86 1/4, off 13 1/4.

Oats: Sep 1.94, off 2; Dec 2.05 1/2, off 2 1/2; Mar 2.18 1/2, off 2 1/2; May 2.27 1/2, off 2 1/2.
