DENVER, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Instapure Brands, Inc. announced today it will donate water filtration systems and replacement filters to the Food Bank for Larimer County and the Weld Food Bank in Greeley; a donation totaling $15,990. The systems and filters can provide 500 households with filtered water in their homes for more than one year.

Local food banks are in the midst of Hunger Action Month activities: collecting and distributing food items for citizens of Larimer County, Weld County, and surrounding communities.

"Our donation of water filters not only helps those in need by freeing up money otherwise spent on bottled water but also helps our community work toward a sustainable lifestyle by eliminating petroleum products used in the production of plastic bottles and transportation of bottled water. The majority of these bottles ultimately end up in the landfill," says Scott Wright, CEO, Instapure.

Filtering water at the point-of-use is an easy-to-adopt environmentally sound practice. Water filtered from the tap can replace the use of bottled water for everyday water consumption, cooking, brewing coffee and more, while providing clean, fresh tasting water.

The Instapure filter is a green solution to help individuals reduce their carbon footprint. Every 200-gallon filter put in the hand of a consumer has the potential to eliminate 1500 plastic bottles. Below are the facts regarding consumption of bottled water:

  • Americans buy 50 billion bottles of water a year(1)
  • 38 billion of those bottles go to landfills(1)
  • It takes 17 million barrels of oil to make the bottles(2)
  • And another 33 million barrels of oil to fill, transport, refrigerate and dispose of the bottles(2)
  • 40% of bottled water is actually municipal tap water packaged for your convenience(3)
