Grain futures close lower Monday

Grain futures closed lower Monday with traders keeping a lookout for weather forecasts calling for a killing frost.

Corn was off 2 to off 2 1/4, soybeans were off 20 3/4 to off 27 1/2, wheat was off 1 to off 2 and oats were off 1.

China said improved weather near harvest had made up for low yield predictions due to a mid-season drought. Wheat closed lower with support from a 20 percent yield decrease predicted for Australia’s New South Wales growing region. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said 98,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans were sold to an unnamed buyer Monday.

Corn: Dec 3.16, off 2; Mar 3.29 1/4, off 2 1/4; May 3.38 1/2, off 2; Jul 3.47, off 2.

Soybeans: Nov 9.13 1/2, off 27 1/2; Jan 9.19, off 26 1/4; Mar 9.22 1/4, off 24 1/4 May 9.23, off 20 3/4.

Wheat: Dec 4.56, off 1 1/4; Mar 4.75 3/4, off 1; May 4.88 1/4, off 1 1/4; Jul 4.99 1/2, off 2.

Oats: Dec 2.12, off 1; Mar 2.25, off 1; May 2.34, off 1; Jul 2.43 1/2, off 1.
