Grain futures mostly higher Tuesday

Grain futures closed mostly higher on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday as the dollar declined against the euro and the yen.

Corn was up 9 3/4 to up 10, soybeans were up 4 3/4 to up 8 1/2, wheat was off 1/4 and oats were up 1.

Corn futures rose on the dollar’s decline and rising oil prices. Wheat prices gained slightly with substantial, but scattered rains expected in the central Plains. Egypt purchased 30,000 metric tons of edible soybean oils Tuesday, while cold weather was forecast for the Heilongjiang province in China.

The prices:

Corn: Dec 3.25 3/4, up 9 3/4; Mar 3.39, up 9 3/4; May 3.48 1/4, up 9 3/4; Jul 3.57, up 10.

Soybeans: Nov 9.22, up 8 1/2; Jan 9.26 1/4, up 7 1/4; Mar 9.27 3/4, up 5 1/2; May 9.27 3/4, up 4 3/4.

Wheat: Dec 4.55 3/4, off 1/4; Mar 4.75 1/2, off 1/4; May 4.88, off 1/4; Jul 4.99 1/4, off 1/4.

Oats: Dec 2.13, up 1; Mar 2.26, up 1; May 2.35, up 1; Jul 2.44 1/2, up 1.
